Quick caterpillar update

Here's another photo of the caterpillar that was preparing for his (her?) chrysalis. It is now fully encased. The little black blob at the bottom of the chrysalis is the outer skin of the caterpillar. I'm assuming it wriggles out of it, but I have yet to see it happen.

Hopefully we'll be able to see a butterfly emerge (or at least a new born butterfly). We've hatched these out in aquariums before, and it's pretty exciting.

  2. It actually stayed on the dill plant (which is surrounded by spinach - good eye!) - I have never seen one do that before. All the other caterpillars left their eating grounds and cocooned somewhere else - we have only found one other one in the wild, and it was on the side of our house. I would check any brushy areas, or maybe on the fences.

  3. Our big one was gone today...I looked around but I can't find it. I should have maybe put a stick nearby - maybe it would have chosen that spot to cocoon. Have to keep watching the other 2 little ones that are still on the dill.
